DuitAwal
Summary
An earned-wage access and digital financial aid product built on an open banking integration taken to production as its payments engine, consuming bank APIs for account data retrieval and real-time payment-out over the DuitNow rails.
Why it mattered
- Gave workers access to wages they had already earned instead of pushing them toward high-cost short-term credit.
- Made financial aid disbursement immediate rather than batch-processed days later.
- Proved out open banking as production payments infrastructure, not a proof of concept.
What I did
- Built and shipped an open banking integration consuming bank APIs for account data retrieval and real-time payment-out transfers over the DuitNow rails.
- Took that integration to production as the payments engine behind the product, not as a pilot.
- Designed the earned-wage access flows and the disbursement model for digital financial aid.
- Handled the reconciliation and controls needed for real-time outbound payments at consumer scale.
Lessons / principles
- Real-time payment-out is a reconciliation problem long before it is an API problem.
- Open banking earns its cost only when it replaces a manual step end to end.
- Products serving people short on cash have no tolerance for settlement delay.
