Summary
A micro-SME finance platform bringing structured financial products to the smallest businesses, built on the same payments and identity infrastructure serving the wider portfolio.
Why it mattered
- Micro-SMEs sit below the threshold where traditional lending economics work, leaving a large segment unserved.
- Reusing existing payments and identity rails made it viable to serve them at low unit cost.
- Extended the platform from moving money into helping small businesses manage it.
What I did
- Defined the product for micro-SME financial needs rather than shrinking an enterprise product to fit.
- Built it on shared payments and identity infrastructure to keep the cost of serving small businesses viable.
- Designed onboarding and verification flows appropriate to businesses without formal financial records.
Lessons / principles
- Serving small customers profitably is an infrastructure reuse problem.
- Verification designed for enterprises excludes the businesses that need finance most.
